Artist of March!!

Raven !!!

Truely an Artist!
Where ever you find Raven she will probably be creating something! A few of her projects completed this year:  online competitions, her bedroom walls, tattoos for the school play, and decor for prom!
With each new project she always has a "BIG IDEA" and concept behind her work.

Clay Projects

Cultures around the world use masks for a variety of purposes. Students choose a culture, researched, and sculpted using many cultures styles. Italian, African, Mexican, German, and Native American are just a few of the cultures that students studied.

They also learned coil building pottery, which they found was more difficult than it seemed.

Artist of February

Michelle!

from the 1st day of class I could tell that Michelle was a very talented artist. Each student made their own name tag and her's just popped out from all the others. Instead of just using letters, objects spelt out her name. Check out her surreal artwork below and how the hands are making breakfast to form a landscape.

Surreal Hands

Hands, you've all seen them in many types of artwork from cavemen to modern art. We started off by drawing hands uninstructed, with no tips from me.  Then students learned a technique called blind contour (drawing with only looking at your hand and not your paper!). Many improvements we already starting to take place as we moved onto a 2nd technique that artists like Michelango and Di Vinci used to improve their drawing skills, dissection!!  Only we used the internet instead of dissecting an actual human hand. Below you can see their improvements!

After we improved our hand drawing skills we learned about one of my favorite Spanish artists, Salvador Dali. Dali was best know for his surreal artwork, bizarre character, and crazy moustache. We created videos judging his "Persistence of Memory" painting--->

Student took their techniques learned along with their knowledge of surreal art to create their own surreal hands.
